What is Martensitic Stainless Steel?

Martensitic is a type of stainless steel primarily composed of 12-15% chromium, with other key elements such as up to 1.2% carbon and varying amounts of nickel.[1] The high carbon content contributes to a robust molecular structure, while the absence of significant nickel reduces its resistance to corrosion compared to other stainless steel grades. Martensitic stainless steel is known for its ability to be hardened and strengthened through heat treatment and aging processes. These treatments enhance its strength, making it ideal for applications that require durability and precision.[2]
