Stainless steel contains chromium, a durable metal that helps prevent rust and corrosion. When exposed to oxygen and heat, a thin, protective oxide layer forms on the surface, causing a slight discoloration or rainbow effect.[1] However, there’s no need to worry – this can be easily removed. Simply apply some club soda or vinegar to the affected area, then gently polish with a soft cloth, following the grain of the stainless steel. Rub until the discoloration disappears, then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly. [2]
